Statement about this object Melon hats with a snail pattern were made for boys in the Hmong Sam Neua tradition. The amulet on the top of the hat represents a mother and child and symbolizes protection. The border of the hat is a mountain pattern, symbolizing strength. Interspersed around the snail is a diamond pattern symbolizing earth/fourseasons. The silver coins are manufactured, imitation currency.
