John Lodge lives and works in Billings, Montana. Born in Red Lodge, Montana, he left the intermountain west in 1965 to study jazz improvisation and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While in Boston, he became involved in the visual arts as Berklee’s art director and photographer. Lodge’s work fuses systems and methodologies of music and visual art, with idiosyncratic materials and processes that operate in what he calls a "planned system of randomness." Lodge has presented solo projects at: the University of Wyoming Art Museum, Laramie, Wyoming; Yellowstone Art Museum, Billings, Montana; Missoula Art Museum; Montana State University Art Museum, Billings; Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Ketchum, Idaho; Nicolaysen Art Museum, Casper, Wyoming; Holter Museum of Art, Helena, Montana; Paris Gibson Square Museum, Great Falls, Montana; Ucross Foundation Gallery, Clearmont, Wyoming; Art Association of Jackson Hole, Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Emerson Cultural Center, Bozeman, Montana; Carbon County Arts Guild, Red Lodge, Montana; Eyre/Moore Gallery, Seattle, Washington; Catherine Louisa Gallery, Billings, Montana; Turman Larison Gallery, Helena, Montana; and Botanica Fine Art, Bozeman, Montana. His work is in the permanent collections of the Yellowstone Art Museum, Missoula Art Museum, University of Wyoming Art Museum, Nicolaysen Art Museum, and GSA Rocky Mountain Region.
