Statement about this object |
MAM opened in 1975 as a Missoula County agency called the Missoula Museum of the Arts. In its early years, the museum commissioned local artists to create prints that were offered as premiums for membership. Mystery Bouquet was a popular selection, and MAM is fortunate to have this first print from the edition preserved in the collection. Leslie Millar has lived in western Montana since 1972. As a child, she lived for four years in Iran and was fortunate to be exposed to Persian Art, Greek, Roman, and Iranian archaeology, European fairy tales, and life in the bazaar. These sources influenced the bright colors and geometric designs, and she incorporates in her art. A long-time Missoula resident now based in Arlee, Millar manages the historic Brunswick Building artist community, making studio space available to artists and writers. |
